While HP's play laptops haven't always remov the scratch, the HP Omen 15 (1007na) is a solid entry into the current slimline trend. While still boxing a fewer pounds, this machine is a much more streamlined figure than previous iterations, and patc some smaller niggling design choices are preventative on the periphery, there's plenty to fete in the whole experience here.

I played out a few weeks with the HP Prognosticate 15, and dug out my chromatic old 2018 Omen to liken around changes, putting it through its paces with the latest games and some daily work. Rearwards when I first got my hands on an H.P. Omen, these machines weren't great. From so-so operation to a vast blocky design that takes up half a desk by itself, this line of merchandise hasn't just had an easygoing clip of it.

Still, afterward spending some clock time with the new iteration, it's easy to see that the tides have off, with a small form factor and fantabulous CPU handling bringing information technology far close to the trump gaming laptops on the market right now.

Design

The HP Predic 15 is very much following the trend of slimline gaming laptops that eschews the angular designs and bulk of preceding iterations for a far more subtle aesthetic. With a compact lower incomplete comprising a simple keyboard (there's no numpad) and large touchpad and a simple diamond Omen logo on the back of the matte black exterior, this is a toned-down machine that would fit in at an office just now as swell as information technology would in an RGB-clad apparatus.

That chassis offers up a sturdy frame with no bounce surgery bend in the keyboard plate or on either side of the touchpad. However, in that location is big turn to the sort which wobbles along the hinge quite easily. That's non a major concern - this car comes in under $1300 / £1300 with some stupefying components under the tough - but does show how the materials accustomed make this simple machine so slim aren't the most solid in the business.

Still, on that point's a self-coloured hinge between the two halves that holds the weight of the of import board when opening well.

Strangely, HP has placed the power button along the top row of the keyboard, perilously close to the erase key. While I ne'er had some issues with accidental presses putt the machine to sleep it did take just about acquiring used to and successful me miss the simpler dedicated space connected previous models.

Top executive up the HP Omen 15, though, and you'll in real time spot four-district RGB across the of import keyboard. These LEDs aren't quite as unfearing as RGB lighting on other devices, and offer up more than of a pastel tone, especially in sun (though they manage tranquillise wait rising well in brighter conditions).

It's Worth noting that the Portend weighs in at 2.46 kg, so while slimline there's even few goodly heft to this device. For reference, the MSI Stealing 15M weighs in at just 1.67kg with a similar form cistron.

One of the most notable features of the HP Omen 15 is its gorgeous 1440p 165Hz display. It's capable of producing a particularly crisp picture, with the tone even noticeable on habitation screens and desktop icon text. With deep, rich blacks and tiptop color handling, there's plenty to wonder at here and gesture is particularly fast at 165Hz as well.

That display is still a little glossy, so in that location was a bit of shine in brighter lighting conditions. However, it's one of the best-looking laptops I've seen in a while once the lights were a little dimmer.

The keyboard is whipping and responsive, tactile sensation great in the hand though observably less clicky than my older sit. Allay, there was a super-fast return rate here and a satisfying bite with a short travel time that ready-made gliding across the board feel all the much natural.

I averaged a Words per minute of 87 connected the HP Omen, with a 98.6% accuracy. That's beautiful impressive considering my average on the super-fast HyperX Debase Origins 60 is 91.3 WPM with 96.3% accuracy, and that model nudges the best gaming keyboards in functioning, non to name information technology's my daily driver with flock of motor memory baked in. The wide touchpad features a silky flabby finis and feels great to use, with a responsive bu and impartial the right level of immunity to a lower place the main clicks likewise. Of course, you'll likely be victimisation unmatchable of the best gaming mouse options during gaming, so this is left for study use.

Presage Gaming Studio is baked aright in still and offers a super clean period for all your presets, keyboard lighting, and installed games. Revitalized from the Omen Command Centre of old iterations, this is a particularly easy-to-use piece of software. I love that HP has cooked away with the 'espy' sensuous that so some machines rouge over the exceed of their built-in software, instead offering a range of simple menus.

Those running mobile devices with Humanoid Marshmallow and iOS 13 can also score use of the Outside Gambling feature film, a plan that casts your gameplay to a standby gimmick. Spell a trifle laggy, it functioned well in my testing, but I don't really see a peculiar employment case considering you'll need to get on the Saami WLAN association to get a chance of playing. This is a sport definitely best placed on HP's gaming PCs.

Performance

Benchmarks

We put the HP Prefigure 15 to the test on around long-familiar benchmarking exercises (all at 1080p), here's how it matched up:

Firestrike: 7254
TimeSpy: 7753
PC Mark 10: 6057
Cinebench CPU: Multi-core: 9,873; Separate-core: 1,320
Tom Clancy's The Division 2: Extremist: 55 fps; High: 61 Federal Protective Service
Metro Exodus: Ultra (RTX): 53 fps; Spiky: 59 Federal Protective Service
Phantasma of the Tomb Freeboote: Highest: 58 FPS; High: 65 fps
Total War: Three Kingdoms: Ultra: 53 fps; High: 59 fps
Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultra: 48 fps; High: 54 Federal Protective Service

The HP Omen was remarkably pipe down during daily tasks and plane lighter gaming. Those fans did kick into gear mechanism during the most demanding moments, but the whirring never outstayed its welcome, and I didn't notice any particularly concerning temperature climbs. If you're concerned, though, the best gaming headsets can easily block that extra noise out. That was a little surprising considering these cheaper slimline laptops a great deal lack the internal cooling structures to keep their compact insides at an received temperature. The CPU is incredibly efficient Here, though, flying super fast during everyday work and flirt.

The autumnal tones of Life story Is Strange: True up Colours looked gorgeous on the QHD screen, with colors popping crosswise the town and smooth background movements, shadows, and detailing passim my travels. The display board made all game feel a little more spirited, offering ascending a extremely bright picture but sometimes sacrificing clarity for contrast in more cluttered scenes.

I a great deal promote my old 2018 Omen too far when loading up larger Planet Coaster projects, but this model handles even the almost densely crowded areas with aplomb, only actually starting to feel the throttle when the park is absolutely booming of kinetic guests. The detailing and lighting were specially spectacular here, though.

When IT came to faster action sequences, things kicked dormie a notch. Games like Doom Eternal and Apex Legends gave the fans something to contend with, and sometimes dropped a large number of frames when the system wasn't set to prioritize carrying out over all else. I experimented with running these titles on battery power and it's obvious that this was non the intended use subject. While playable, it's a good deal recommended to keep an mercantile establishment near.

The frame rates coming out of this machine won't rival some of the many premium options, only still hit 60fps when I paid more attention to graphical aspects that weren't every bit needed as a shine picture. This is a cheaper RTX 3060 laptop, but in that respect's withal a Ryzen 7 5800H processor inwardly and a good amount of RAM as well. It was a trifle disappointing to have to make sacrifices to reach 60fps on games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Metro Book of Exodus, merely these are more stern titles and the RTX 3060 is calm at the 'lower' end of the 30-series spectrum. Tincture of the Tomb Plunderer and The Division 2 ran much better (though some particle effects were sacrificed in the latter).

It's too worth mentioning that, while you're getting a 1440p display Hera, more cold titles run more than major at 1080p, so salvage your super-resolution for specific games, put to work, and binge-watching.

Should you buy the HP Omen 15?

The in vogue HP Augur 15 redesign certainly brings the line into the aesthetic of today's most popular machines. While you'Ra not getting the outright performance of much of the best Alienware gambling laptops like the Alienware M15 R6, you're non paying for it. Instead, you're getting a slimline machine with a gorgeous screen that feels custom-made for 1080p-1440p gaming. That $1,350 MSRP feels a little high considering the Asus TUF Dash F15 ofttimes packs an RTX 3070 card into that price tag. However, the screen technology on here Crataegus laevigata hold open the day if you play slower, more strategic titles.

If you're look to get get at to those Ultra settings with a reliable result, though, we'd recommend picking out an RTX 3070 laptop computer (these configurations are generally $150 more). Of course, you'll be spending a lot more, merely the second-best performance will be found in premium RTX 3080 laptops.

We'rhenium also rounding up all the best Razer gaming laptops on the market right now if you're looking for more than slimline designs. Or, have a look at the best gaming PCs if you're after a desktop experience. If so, we'd also recommend checking out the best gaming desks and the best gaming chairs for a full apparatus.

H.P. Portend 15 gaming laptop review: "a beautiful silver screen on a coagulated spec send"

The Horsepower Omen 15 is a laptop that could make waves in the gaming laptop computer commercialize. Combining a powerful display with a solid set of specs under the exhaust hood, this machine allows the Ryzen processor to sing, plane if the RTX 3060 model will call for a few sacrifices happening fancier graphical features.
